One to watch, maybe: Gatekeeper Press

Skilled Workman Posted on May 8, 2015 by David BergslandMay 8, 2015

There’s a supposedly new player today: Gatekeeper Press I know very little about them—just heard about them. But, it’s an interesting concept. As you know, I am basically against paying publishers anything without a very good reason. My books teach you how to publish for free, and I still think that’s the best route to go—IF you are willing and IF you are able. So, why do I mention Gateway Press? This just seems like another competitor … Continue reading →

The Kindle fixed layout software moves books

Skilled Workman Posted on April 23, 2015 by David BergslandApril 23, 2015

As I mentioned a while ago, I made textbook versions of my two best sellers: Practical Font Design and Writing in InDesign. The process was very simple and easy. I just uploaded the PDF I had developed for download. It had a bit of color added, but it is basically the print version slightly optimized for viewing on-screen. The conversion was very fast and seemingly flawless. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, it’s just a wrapped PDF so far, with … Continue reading →

New Release: Writing In InDesign CC 2014 Producing Books, more than an update

Skilled Workman Posted on July 7, 2014 by David BergslandFebruary 7, 2015

CC 2014 virtually redid ePUB export—adding fixed layout & radically improving reflowable ePUBs Indesign has always been the best software for publishing: print & ebook. I have already posted quite a bit about the new software. Most of the improvements seemed to be focused on we self-publishers. But my book is also redone— in places quite radically. A review by Mary Campagna Findley for the CS6 version “David Bergland has challenged me to think beyond the writing, editing, and cover design … Continue reading →

The entire definition of a book has changed

Skilled Workman Posted on October 22, 2012 by David BergslandOctober 22, 2012

How have things been revised: This piece you are reading did not appear first as a book in the traditional sense. These paragraphs were first released as the first posting of a new series on my blog, The Skilled Workman, in April of 2011. There was a link to a free downloadable PDF version at Scribd. The intention was a fully developed book after I was given the complete vision to share. I ended up with six of … Continue reading →

Writing in InDesign update published…

Skilled Workman Posted on July 30, 2011 by David BergslandAugust 13, 2011

Today I published a carefully constructed revision of the original 7×10 book as a 6×9 book on Lulu, Createspace, and Scribd. Due to a find and replace flaw in the original, many of the “we are”s were converted to I are and all the similar permutations that go with that kind of mental clumsiness. In the process, InDesign went through a spasm and damaged several of the images, so I fixed all of that. It does all … Continue reading →

The New Publisher in the Kingdom of God

Skilled Workman Posted on May 13, 2011 by David BergslandAugust 21, 2024

The New Publisher Here we are in the second decade of the new millennium and we are faced with a brand new way of serving the Lord in the Kingdom. Publishing has radically changed. The new changes are almost designed for those of us who feel called by the Lord to share the vision of what He has called us to do. The new methodologies work better for prophets, pastors, and teachers than they do for almost … Continue reading →

This site uses the pseudonyms of Bergsland Design for design work; and Radiqx Press for publishing. Both of these have been used for some time beginning in the past millennium. The Skilled Workman was begun in 2011 dealing with spiritual teachings about our Messiah and the Holy Spirit he sent to us to help us. If you want to meet Jesus, click here.
