A look at the ebook revolution: known & unknown

Skilled Workman Posted on October 3, 2011 by David BergslandOctober 3, 2011

Four years into the ebook revolution: things we know and things we don’t know – The Shatzkin Files. I received a link to this from Joel this morning. It’s a good review and an eye-opener, if you haven’t been paying attention. Mike says: “One could say (and I would) that the ereading revolution is coming up to its 4th anniversary since it was late November 2007 when Amazon first released the Kindle. There had been dedicated ereading … Continue reading →

Writing in InDesign update published…

Skilled Workman Posted on July 30, 2011 by David BergslandAugust 13, 2011

Today I published a carefully constructed revision of the original 7×10 book as a 6×9 book on Lulu, Createspace, and Scribd. Due to a find and replace flaw in the original, many of the “we are”s were converted to I are and all the similar permutations that go with that kind of mental clumsiness. In the process, InDesign went through a spasm and damaged several of the images, so I fixed all of that. It does all … Continue reading →

My newest book: Writing in InDesign

Skilled Workman Posted on July 14, 2011 by David BergslandNovember 19, 2012

Check out my page on the book This book has been replaced by “Writing In InDesign Revised Edition 2.5” This first edition, first formatting of the new book is no longer available available on Amazon. It includes many of the recent postings on this blog, plus more help for authors writing in InDesign (version 7.5 especially). I’m convinced that InDesign is best place to write. Read and find out why that is true and how it can … Continue reading →

Editing ePUBs

Skilled Workman Posted on June 21, 2011 by David BergslandJune 21, 2011

One of my largest frustrations with desgining ePUBs has been the difficulty of decompressing and recompressing them to edit the CSS. Today on one of the groups I work with I was sent this:   Because of the problem with the mimetype-compression, rearchiving is on the Mac only via Terminal or via script possible. One Script is called ePUB Zip 1.0.2.   This script works very well. Just Google it, and download it. It would be a … Continue reading →

The New Publisher in the Kingdom of God

Skilled Workman Posted on May 13, 2011 by David BergslandOctober 15, 2012

The New Publisher Here we are in the second decade of the new millennium and we are faced with a brand new way of serving the Lord in the Kingdom. Publishing has radically changed. The new changes are almost designed for those of us who feel called by the Lord to share the vision of what He has called us to do. The new methodologies work better for prophets, pastors, and teachers than they do for almost … Continue reading →

Relative to page, essential for ePUB images

Skilled Workman Posted on April 30, 2011 by David BergslandApril 30, 2011

I’ve been having trouble with images in my ePUBs for well over a year. I was testing again today, and for the book I was working on, changing from fixed size to relative to page made a huge difference on the iPad. I had been using Adobe Digital Editions to make my judgements and fixed size at 300 dpi works a lot better there. But for the iPad, relative to page solved my problems (as long as … Continue reading →
