Pulling punches?

Skilled Workman Posted on June 27, 2010 by David BergslandJune 30, 2010

Guilty as charged! Maybe it’s just me, but I rarely find a place where I can really say what I feel. A lot of it is my shyness and timidity on social situations. I can hear the laughing and the “yea, right!”s—but I ask you, “How many of you have seen me in a social situation?” Surely you can see my motivation to teach and write. However, as a writer and teacher, I really need to be … Continue reading →

A beautifully quiet Easter morning…

Skilled Workman Posted on April 4, 2010 by David BergslandApril 4, 2010

The world goes on not remembering what we celebrate—on purpose! Because if they remembered, they might have to think about their choices. Today reminds us of the proof that Jesus was not crazy, demented, or insignificant. Today we remember the proof of his Lordship, the vindication of his ministry, the result of his suffering. Two days earlier he was dreading it so bad he was sweating blood—so upset the capillaries were bursting and blood was oozing out … Continue reading →

Eternal life is to know God

Skilled Workman Posted on March 21, 2010 by David BergslandMarch 23, 2020

Eternal life is to know God and this definition was prayed by Jesus in his last priestly prayer of John 17. For those who have heard me teach Scripture, you understand how important I believe John 17:3 is: And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. John 17:3 New International Version (NIV) Eternal life is to know God The focus of this verse is the verb: … Continue reading →

Playing games, growing up, is there any hope?

Skilled Workman Posted on March 14, 2010 by David BergslandMarch 14, 2010

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.

Adding a moment to your life…

Skilled Workman Posted on February 28, 2010 by David BergslandFebruary 28, 2010

What are you so worried about? Jesus is talking about the silliness of worrying about these things—food, clothing, shelter, health, genetic make up, inheritance, any of it. You need to relax!

This too is vanity and striving after wind…

Skilled Workman Posted on February 21, 2010 by David BergslandFebruary 21, 2010

One of the things that happens as you mature is dealing with all that you have seen, heard, and done. As I have told many people, I have learned more since I was fifty than in the fifty years prior. My entire writing career started when I was fifty, for example. Lately, we have been dealing a lot with Ecclesiastes—all is vanity. More and more, nothing seems to matter except our relationship with Jesus. Increasingly, the things … Continue reading →

Merry Christmas! & thoughts on the coming year…

Skilled Workman Posted on December 3, 2009 by David BergslandDecember 6, 2009

it’s been a surprising year. I never would have expected to be forced into going into what the government calls retirement. That has been a huge adjustment. For a man, retirement is close to what housewives experience if circumstances keep them from being able to clean their home. it attacks the core of our being. I have been amazed at how much of my self identity is tied up in what I do. On the other hand, … Continue reading →

The reality of Aztlan and Reconquista: conquering SW US for Aztec nation

Skilled Workman Posted on November 23, 2009 by David BergslandNovember 23, 2009

One of the things Alic wanted us to realize concerning the publication of his new novel, Black Sail: Invasion, is that the movement to form Aztlan is real and they are serious. There are many Mexican people who believe Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and southern California was stolen from them. A Zogby poll in 2002 shows nearly 60% of Mexicans in Mexico believe that this area belongs to Mexico and that it cannot be illegal to migrate … Continue reading →

Making an essential anchored object style

Skilled Workman Posted on October 21, 2009 by David BergslandOctober 21, 2009

Adding anchored objects can be a little tedious. One of the most painful aspects of making anchored frames to hold illustrations, sidebar notes, or headlines is the tediousness of the repetitive filling out of the anchored object dialog box. The simple solution is to make those settings in an object style. Then all you do is place the object as an inline graphic and hit the shortcut to convert it to an anchored object and to offset it where you need it. Or … Continue reading →
