The Hackberry Font Foundry forms under a huge tree

Skilled Workman Posted on June 26, 2009 by David BergslandJune 26, 2009

Some of you may have heard: David’s retired from teaching and is now focusing on font design. He already has an apprentice with more making plans to join the foundry. Obviously, it was time for some changes. The name comes from a huge hackberry tree on the boulevard outside the front door of the foundry. As they add workers Hackberry fonts will be offering fonts from a variety of people. Radiqx is looking forward to the future … Continue reading →

Christian publishers: why we do what we do

Skilled Workman Posted on June 19, 2009 by David BergslandJune 26, 2009

The basic question is simple: Why is so much so-called christian product so bad, boring, trite, brain-dead, and so on? It’s an analysis of the printing industry and the changes it faces. It a point of view that we as designers need to be aware of as we change from traditional printing to the on-demand model with research and fulfillment happening online. We need to be aware that many … Continue reading →

Using Nested Styles to auto-format

Skilled Workman Posted on June 8, 2009 by David BergslandJune 26, 2009

Here is an article from Creative Pro by Michael Murphy on the use of nested styles. He is a marvelous teacher, so I assume that the article is exceptional. I haven’t read it, because I have written similar things. But you should check it out. Every book I seem to use nested styles more. The ability to add custom formatting to the beginnings of my paragraphs is too titillating to me. I tend to use this option too much. … Continue reading →

This site uses the pseudonyms of Bergsland Design for design work; and Radiqx Press for publishing. Both of these have been used for some time beginning in the past millennium. The Skilled Workman was begun in 2011 dealing with spiritual teachings about our Messiah and the Holy Spirit he sent to us to help us. If you want to meet Jesus, click here.
