Converting book sizes easily

Skilled Workman Posted on October 21, 2009 by David BergslandOctober 21, 2009

The other day I went through a common scenario> I had a 408 page book set up at 6×9. I found out that I needed it formatted to 4.25″ x 6.88″ for a different printer. How long do you think it took me? It became a 540 page book. It took less than an hour. How did it go so quickly? Everything was formatted with styles including all the graphics. The graphics were all formatted as anchored graphics and … Continue reading →

Web 2 Digital Bible: Glo from Zondervan

Skilled Workman Posted on October 18, 2009 by David BergslandOctober 18, 2009

I ran across this in my Christian professionals group at Linked In this morning. It is a visually exciting presentation to be sure. My only question is: Can it really be used? I saw no place to add notes, new crossreferences or any of the other things necessary for a real study bible. I’ve included a scan of one of the pages in one of my bibles to show you what I mean. It may be that … Continue reading →

Everyone does what is right in their own eyes…

Skilled Workman Posted on October 4, 2009 by David BergslandOctober 4, 2009

Judges 17:6 (English Standard Version) In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes. Isn’t this the state of us today? A lack of leadership, plus a rugged individualism. In the world it is indeed hopeless. Our so-called leaders are corrupt and they follow the sheep and/or the flesh—lost in the futility of their minds. So, how do we get beyond this? I must admit I’ve gotten to the … Continue reading →

Got slapped upside the head last night…

Skilled Workman Posted on August 29, 2009 by David BergslandAugust 29, 2009

As those of you who know me have probably figured out, I’m going through a major period of adjustment in my life. Last night my remote stopped on a broadcast by Joyce Meyers. Man, that woman can preach! She really helped me see some things about myself that need serious work. The Holy Spirit comes through again. Thank you, Lord. It’s good to be reminded that even though I may have an accurate vision of where the … Continue reading →

Making sense of your life…

Skilled Workman Posted on August 27, 2009 by David BergslandAugust 27, 2009

Easier said than done, huh? I’ve been contemplating this issue now that I’ve “retired” — wondering what the Lord would have me do with the rest of  my life. I tend to go by what He blesses. But that is certainly not a reliable indicator. You have to make certain of several things to do that: Are you following His lead? If not any blessings on your direction are probably from the Creep. Are you hearing from … Continue reading →

Why are publishing programs at schools shutting down?

Skilled Workman Posted on August 18, 2009 by David BergslandAugust 18, 2009

There are many reasons. I was talking with one of my friends on Facebook this morning. She wants to  get into teaching what she knows. She asked my opinion, and I went into my standard long lament about the state of graphic design and typography education in America. It’s bad, and  it has been bad for years. I first  learned this as an art director for one of the largest printing companies in town. One of our … Continue reading →

Knowing when to move…

Skilled Workman Posted on August 9, 2009 by David BergslandAugust 9, 2009

One of the largest difficulties in my life is easing myself into a project. My normal response is to get really excited and go gung ho ’til I’ve got it as far as I can go. I’ve got a new postulant at Radiqx and what I want to do is start dumping stuff on the poor man and just overwhelm him with input. Now, of course, I don’t think it is overwhelming but it always is to … Continue reading →

Being ready: this is not optional!

Skilled Workman Posted on August 9, 2009 by David BergslandAugust 9, 2009

I was praying this morning and was brought back to the verses in Matthew 24 about his next coming in power. I could talk for hours about how I think that might work. What His name might be. Who will be raptured and when. But I was reminded by the words of my favorite pastor. I was her associate pastor for many years, and I taught quite a bit on end-times speculation (for that is what it … Continue reading →

If you get involved in a large signage project, here’s help

Skilled Workman Posted on July 24, 2009 by David BergslandJuly 24, 2009

For some reason, I’ve gotten on mailing lists to look over books for publishers with the hope, on their part, that I’ll blog on their books. One of the books I received recently is another one from Princeton Architectural Press. At first glance it seems to have little to do with what we do here at Radiqx. But I think I should mention it, because I enjoyed reading it, and because you may need it at some … Continue reading →

If design is your calling, it’s your ministry

Skilled Workman Posted on July 22, 2009 by David BergslandJuly 22, 2009

Oh my God — NO! We do not need Bible thumping obnoxious brats in graphic design. We are to be salt, not spice One of the most difficult things for a new Christian to realize is that beating people over the head with Jesus is counter-productive. Jesus called us the salt of the world. Salt has a very special job and it is used in very special ways when we eat. Salt is a preservative It keeps … Continue reading →

This site uses the pseudonyms of Bergsland Design for design work; and Radiqx Press for publishing. Both of these have been used for some time beginning in the past millennium. The Skilled Workman was begun in 2011 dealing with spiritual teachings about our Messiah and the Holy Spirit he sent to us to help us. If you want to meet Jesus, click here.
