Old Hermann Zapf film from 1967 — 5 Comments

  1. Absolutely marvelous to watch a master at work! Thanks for the link. But as I watched, I could not help but think, “How will children growing up today learn to appreciate calligraphy when their schools aren’t even teaching them cursive writing?”

And I say that as someone who always received “needs improvement” grades for my own almost-illegible handwriting. You don’t have to be a master or even a modestly capable amateur to appreciate genius.

  2. It’s amazing how many aspects of what is completely taken for granted, was in the beginning; something more than an art in terms of detail and beauty.

  3. David, as an old Pitman writing student, thanks to my grammar school Nuns, I can really appreciate this blog, thanks, Jim O’Brien
