The changes to print are still building

This is an old draft I forgot to publish. I’m not sure the link even works.

There is an excellent article by Dr. Joe Webb today in What They Think.

It’s an analysis of the printing industry and the changes it faces. It a point of view that we as designers need to be aware of as we change from traditional printing to the on-demand model with research and fulfillment happening online.
We need to be aware that many printers are in panic mode, and look for those that can meet our needs. If you see a printer hanging on to the old ways of doing things, it is likely that they will not be there the next time you need a printer.
That being said, we are the ones who have to make the informed decision as to which printers are going to work for us and our clients. You need to keep up with the printing industry.
For example, the newly emerging superfast super cheap inkjet printers might radically change things again.
