Why 6-day creation matters

It’s really very simple. If creation didn’t happen in six days, as described in scripture, then Jesus is a sham and the whole thing is a lie.

It boils down to sin

Nasty word. No one wants to talk about it. But it is key to this discussion. For Adam‘s sin brought death into the world. If death began with Adam, then billions of randomly dying and evolving predecessors is an impossible concept. Adam’s sin radically transformed the nature of all of their descendants. Now we are born into sin, automatically sinning and self-centered from our first breath.

This new sin nature brought about by Adam’s sin is the reason Jesus came. The old Revised Standard Version says it very well in 1 John 3:8

He who commits sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.

The first successful work of the devil was Adam’s sin—not Eve‘s sin (for male and female He created them). Adam was responsible and should have protected his wife and brought her into immediate repentance. If Adam had been a responsible, godly man, the Lord might have listened to him and creation might have remained perfect. But we’ll never know that, will we?

The key thing is that they did sin, and death was brought into the world. Until that point in time, there was no death.

Jesus came to repair the damage

We were unable to do so. This is not the place to discuss the purposes of God in setting up the world the way He did. Suffice it to say that sin was not a surprise to Him. He had the solution waiting before he began spreading out space, adding formless matter, and speaking “let there be light”.

I’ll be adding many more posts to this entire area of understanding. But the basic point is:

If Adam brought death to us, then creation must be young

What do you think about that?
