Adding the character of Jesus to who you are: Fruit — 4 Comments

  1. I just got this comment from Dean: “it probably does not matter to you or your readers but “fruit” is a lot like the word “seed”, it is hard to distinguish the singular from the plural, although the plural of fruit is found in the NT in the genitive case, but it often means “results, accomplishments” rather than fruits (although your reference to Mt 7 is correct), but not to sorts or kinds of fruit other than in the most broad sense.

Also, I think if you think about the “patience” piece a little and substitute “long-suffering” you will get a more positive word pattern. Translating makrothumia is difficult, and it is sometimes “patience” also the translation of upomone (the final e sounds like a long a) which means endurance or to remain under something until it is done or finished, while long suffering is less a passive concept than patience. I don’t think either word is passive in connotation, so to contrast with drive is difficult for me.”

    Thanks, Dean
