I have been spending a lot of time in prayer, seeking the face of the Lord, trying to follow His lead to write Bible studies and develop materials to make those studies real, helpful, and empowering. As I am working on these things, my heart continuously goes out to people in mainline churches with no spiritual resources—no way to hear the true powerful gospel. The movements of power in the 1960s and 1970s are distant memories. The denominational organizations have shut out all leadership focused on hearing the word for today from the living Lord who loves them. Leadership like this is too hard to control (and they have to keep things under control, you know).
This includes people in mainline pentecostal and charismatic churches—as well non-denominational networks of churches. Thousands of these churches are filled with third and fourth generation believers who hear the stories of the miracles experienced by their great-grandparents, that were seen by their grandparents, that were believed by their parents, but are no longer part of their normal church life. It grieves me to be in a church with no outlet for the Holy Spirit and no one leader asking for the spirit to move in their church.
I know your church is not like this, but please pray. I grieve for people who sit in the pews and never hear a prophecy, see a healing, get a word of knowledge, or hear the truth about the power given to them to help in their daily lives. I am saddened by people I meet who have no concept of sharing the testimonies of what the Lord did today in my life. Any more what I hear increasingly are stories about what the Lord did decades ago.
Please pray for openings to get help to those people who are seeking the truth. Pray that they will have a hunger that will not stop until they find and meet the Truth Himself. Pray that the Holy Spirit will move in the pews of America restoring what has been lost from churches founded by strong believers who knew the Lord, which are now run as businesses by committee. Churches no longer interested in the call of God, but in the decision of the Calling Committee.
Members of these churches believe they are Christians—even though they have never seen a Christian in action working under the direct guidance and power of the Holy Spirit. They can recite the doctrines, but have never seen the living Lord in action in their lives. Help us reach them, Lord Jesus!
